MISANTHROPIC STROLLING SONG
well i only go out walkin
when the stars are brightly shinin
and the moon is high and bloody
as a brand new conflict diamond
and the earth is bleeding oceans
cuz someone just broke her hymen
and the prisoners on the hill
are sleepin while theyre 99-in
i dont mind if the time goes by
because i was born with no conception of time
and the world could end and all the people die
and ill keep steady strollin feelin fine

Night Marchers

NIGHT MARCHERS
on a night so dark and silent
an ethereal army comes
the night marchers
hear them banging with their drums
and if you hear them
wanna save the life in yr lungs
you better strip down
lay naked and play possum
i was out one night drinking sterno
by my lonesome on k something avenue
when i heard a distant rumble
thats when i knew the legends were true
bangin on gourds and tree stumps
like giant bell and pouka shells
it was louder than any rump-
us you'd imagine in hell
i threw my clothes on the ground
then laid down in the clover
heard that mighty marching sound
then turned my body over
thats when i saw them passing by
in royal garments and ten feet high
pale as a sheet and eyes made of fire
its a wonder that i didnt die

The Devil

THE DEVIL
woke up cuddled in the lap of a tree
thru the holes in my clothes the slugs were feastin on me
the sun scorched the air and the rain was shinin bright
good day for the devil to take a belt to his wife
well my baby's on the way out and a hurricanes blowin in
the sun's about to drown itself in the sea again
no more room for emotions i spent em all on my sins
gotta sing this whole world into existence
gotta sing up a storm x 4
and im ready to go get crucified in dirt
let them worms all go on go and give birth
my head'll leak my mind and itll sizzle like an egg
got this pit in my stomach and its full of a ton a lead
now theres nothin i can do to take back what i done
got a woman every state but i cant hold a single one
tell ya if i had a woman farm
them hoes would be as rusty as my grampa's throwin arm
gotta sing up a storm x 4

THE DUNWICH HORROR
the touch of your epithelials
fills me with the most rapt excitementia
and i delight when one of your skin flakes
falls between my cilia
i flay and slay cattle daily
no one has the right genome to mate me
i'm a friendly blood-sucking cuss
so why do you all hate me?
dunwich town
doesnt want me round
but my heart is here
beating holes in the ground

FERRIS WHEEL
it was the year of 29 when the world was young and free
and they didnt have those bothersome precautions of safety
that they use nowadays to restrict you and me
from being exactly what and who we want to be
they had many fine examples of the strange and of the weird
they had the half man who walks on his hands
and lady with a beard
but the human skeleton and the human eye
felt their conditions were lacking and thats when they went awry
so they crept out of their trailers when everyone else was asleep
pulled the pins out of the joyrides and they never made a peep
when the sun rose no one expected a thing
and the throng was back in line and the carnies ticketing
and the horses on the carousel leapt like majestic stallions
a woman had a miscarriage and it landed on some italians
the ferris wheel detached and then began to whirl
the children scattered like petals of a violent flower girl

GREAT GRANDNEPHEW OF COUNTRY MUSIC
well my grandmas uncle road the rails and sang
he dropped out of his jobs and yodeled his way to fame
without him there'd be no country music thang
he died at 35 and jimmie rodgers was his name
jimmie rodgers was the father of country music
and he was my great great uncle
that makes me the grandnephew of country music
yeah i got a right and a missive to make this music
my pawpaw was in the army and later was a postman
my meemaw chased him round the country at 16 til she pinned him down again
they'd go kiss up a fog under a mobile oak tree
he didn't understand the words but said he liked my singing
my dad was born in a family of 6 kids
he's shy and his whole life is music just like me
i know the dreams i live are vicariously his
he believes in what i do and that means the world to me
i grew up in alabama on the side of a highway
18 wheelers lulled me to sleep and ditch blackberries by may
between the cottonfields and underneath a tearfaced moon
you drive and on either side tall walls of pine trees loom
yeah i got a right to make this goddam music
i was born and i was bred and raised right up into it
i even got the lineage if you want me to prove it
im the greatgrandnephew of country music

and i don't dress in a greasy coat
i don't kiss
and i don't tell
and all you sinners gonna go to hell
